Breast Cancer Prevention

by John-Paul
November 1st, 2010

At the closing of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I feel the need to comment on the glaring disparity between many who promote this month and the necessary movement to prevent breast cancer.

This disparity became very obvious when reading two letters published in the Chicago Daily Herald.  “Know the Facts on Breast Cancer Risks” By Karen Malec and “Cancer Prevention a Year Round Task” by Carole Brite.

Brite’s letter references prevention in the title, but then does not talk about breast cancer prevention at all. She talks about ‘preventative screenings’ but screenings do not prevent breast cancer from occurring.  Screenings look for and find, according to Brite, 9 out of 10 cases of breast cancer.  While screening for breast cancer is very important as a method of early detection, it does nothing to prevent the cancer from forming in the first place. Silent Day 2010 – October Activism Day

by John-Paul
October 12th, 2010

I would like to invite you to take part in a powerful event next week: the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity on Tuesday, October 19th.

On that day, people all over the world will give up their voices in solidarity with babies who have had their voices silenced by abortion.

This day is organized each year by Bryan Kemper of Stand True. Last year, 80 girls actually canceled their abortions after seeing the witness of classmates on the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity.  And those are just the ones we know about!

Students for Life of Illinois has ‘adopted’ this as our October Activism Day! So, we are inviting all pro-life students in Illinois to be a part of this!

It’s just over a week away, and already, students from over 2,100 schools — along with over 120 homeschools, nearly 50 businesses and ministries, and over 500 individuals/non-students — in 24 countries have registered to participate!

Are you willing to give up your voice for one day for those who will never have a voice?

For more information and to register, go here:

Bring Your Campus to Life Speaker: Jill Stanek

by Emily
September 16th, 2010

Students for Life of Illinois is pleased to announce our second keynote speaker for this year’s summit!

Jill Stanek is a Pro-Life Activist and Blogger. She has been quoted in the national media on television, radio, in print, and by local and national legislators. Jill writes on pro-life issues as a weekly columnist for WorldNetDaily.com and oversees her own blog, JillStanek.com, the top ranking pro-life blog in the U.S.
Click here to register for the Summit and hear Jill speak!

Jill became involved in the pro-life movement when she was a registered nurse in the Labor & Delivery Department at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. She discovered not only were abortions being committed there, but babies were being aborted alive to die without medical care. When hospital leaders said that they would not stop, Jill went public and has become a national figure in the effort to protect both born and pre-born infants.

Jill is a wife to Rich, mother to 3 children, and grandmother to 4 grandsons. She has addressed many groups at the local, regional, and national levels sharing her testimony and giving an insider’s view to the atrocity of abortion.

Students for Life is very excited to feature Jill at our 2010 Leadership Summit. Jill’s commitment to the pro-life cause led her to risk her job, reputation, and friendships to stop the terrible practices of abortion and infanticide. Be sure to click here to register for the 2010 Summit and hear Jill speak!

Students for Life of Illinois’ fourth annual leadership summit, Bring Your Campus to Life, will be held on Saturday, October 16th, at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet other pro-life leaders, listen to nationally-known speakers, and learn more about the impact you can have on your campus!
