Aurora Gives Planned Parenthood the Pass… Again…

by GuestPoster
July 30th, 2008

Is there something in the water?  I live in Aurora township myself, so we have well water rather than the city utilities, but after reading up on the most recent news regarding Planned Parenthood’s deceptive arrival in my hometown, I couldn’t help but think that most of the city is being poisoned into believing our elected officials are still actually looking out for what’s best for the community.

Earlier this month, the City issued a Final Certificate of Occupancy to the Planned Parenthood, granting permanent legal status to the monstrous abortion clinic. Never mind the fact that they still haven’t actually zoned their parcel to be used for medical purposes in the first place.

The zoning board, the city council, the mayor, all seem to be more than willing to take a slap in the face from Planned Parenthood than to dare even think of enforcing the law and the legal process.

Peter Breen, attorney for the Thomas More Society (and a personal hero of mine) had this to say:

Planned Parenthood has made a mockery of Aurora’s development process… They have brazenly committed fraud against the city and have strong-armed their illegal non-profit ‘business’ into the backyards of citizens who were given no voice to oppose the building of this Wal-Mart sized abortion facility. It is time for the ‘City of Lights’ to shine a harsh light on Planned Parenthood’s dirty tactics.

The Wonders of Adult Stem Cell Research

by GuestPoster

Article Here

Scientists at Griffith University in Australia are finding more evidence that adult stem cells are medically and scientifically superior to those taken from human embryos, which necessarily involve the destruction of human life in order to harvest the cells.

The adult stem cells they have been using for research have allowed them to get closer than ever before to curing diseases such as Parkinson’s, and many of these cells are being taken right from the patient’s nose.

Another advantage to doing it this way is that the cells have no risk of being rejected by the patients immune system, as they are from the patient’s own skin. This risk many times accompanies the use of embryonic stem cell research, as the stem cells come from a completely different human being (one in the embryonic stage of life.)

Of course, it would be far easier to understand this advantage to adult stem cell research if our society actually understood that a living human embryo is a living human being, and so we thank the scientists at Griffith University for their dedication to an ethical research for this disease’s treatment and cure.

Pro-Life Democrats Stirring Up the Party

by GuestPoster

Article Here

Some Pro-Choice Democrats are questioning the work of the Pro-Life Democrats, asking whether it is best to work with them and support them as they are Democrats, or to deny them support due to their “anti-choice” platforms.

The article is interesting, and I encourage you to read it, but there is one thing I need to highlight and bring into discussion, and it is regarding how Goldstein, the writer of the article, portrays DFLA’s 95-10 Initiative (See the DFLA site for more information):

Since 2005, anti- and mixed-choice Democrats have been pushing the 95-10 initiative, which seeks to reduce the abortion rate (which is, in fact, already going down) by 95 percent over the next decade. While the plan would expand federal support for family planning and access to contraceptives, it also includes parental notification laws and a ban on certain later-term abortion procedures. Those aren’t policies many Democrats who identify as pro-choice will get behind.

It seems Goldstein needs a ‘reality check.’ What she fails to mention is that most Americans do not support many late-term abortions, and also that a sizable majority of Americans favor parental notification laws. Since most Americans won’t have a problem with 95-10, why would the Democratic party?

If these Democrats really support choice, then they will help the pro-life Democrats pass the 95-10 Initiative, because it will in fact help reduce the abortion rate, which is what pro-lifers and pro-choicers want. It is a bill that both sides can agree on.

The ‘accident’ exception…

by GuestPoster
May 27th, 2008

It is downright amazing sometimes to see the length our opponents will go to to ensure that their agenda is alive and well.

The state of Virginia has been working on their own ban on Partial-Birth abortion, much like the Federal one confirmed in Gonzales v. Carhart, and a few Federal Circuit Judges decided to shoot it down.

Apparently, they opposed it because there was no exception mentioned for when an abortionist accidentally begins delivering a baby before an abortion.

Full Story Here.

I guess we would need to begin writing in exceptions to every law so as to allow for accidents…

Bringing SFL to Lewis University, Part 2

by GuestPoster
May 13th, 2008

This is a continuation of Part 1

After we recruited about sixty students – gathering names and email addresses, we created a spreadsheet of the students from the clipboard. I also started a facebook group for SFL Lewis and began making ourselves known throughout the Lewis network. I sent out an email to all of the potential members, in order to hold a preliminary meeting so that we could form the group.

Michael Barnett had told me that it is typical to bring in about 10% of the students on your email list for the first meeting. So I was not too surprised when I had about seven or eight students at my first meeting. We spent the first meeting discussing our own individual beliefs and stances on the issues. This was in order to establish a foundation of dialogue within the group. Most of the students were firmly against abortion, some were against the death penalty, and some even saw being pro-life as incorporating all issues pertaining to a respect for life and the well-being of others.

Throughout the first few meetings, we had a variety of different students who would come and go, but eventually we found the core members who were willing to give up some of their time every week to see this group succeed on campus. These members soon became officers.

I started the process of school recognition only a couple weeks after recruiting. Most of this process was typical of any school organization seeking campus recognition – a constitution, mission statement, list of officers, etc.

As our numbers were few, collective input for the mission statement and the constitution was minimal. One thing we learned is that a group should work on their mission statement and their constitution over a period of the first few years before they decide on exactly what it will say, instead of setting it in stone within the first few months. This gives the pro-lifers on campus a chance to determine the special needs and interests their own school has.

For example, some schools have separate organizations against the death penalty, and some have special groups that work to educate on genocide or war. Taking into account the other groups on campus can help shape the pro-life group and its efforts to educate on all life issues. The pro-life group can thus include not only abortion and euthanasia in their mission statement, but also these other issues, so as to show that we take interest in all issues pertaining to the respect for life.

At Lewis, we have a group called STAND, which is a social justice group that focuses primarily on genocide and the death penalty, and how human rights are affected by it. Meeting with groups like STAND, we hope to co-sponsor events pertaining to these issues so that we can begin building friendly relations with other groups on campus.

After we completed the paperwork, we prepared to meet with student government as the next step to being recognized by the university.

To be continued…
